Few Philly on Rails folks are lucky enough to get paid to write Ruby. Unfortunately, without a work project, it can sometimes be hard to focus on exercising your Ruby skills.
Don't let the daily grind get you down. Fire up a text editor and take a stab at the Philly on Rails Weekly Challenge. Each week, we'll post a small coding challenge on this page. People can work together or separately to solve it, upload their implementations and bask in the glory that is sure to follow.
The best entries will be demo'd at the monthly meeting.
Note: While some challenges will build on the work of the previous week, we'll always try to provide starter code for those to level the playing field for people who have just dropped in.
Ruby Shelf
Our first series of challenges will have us building an online bookshelf application where users can scan a book to add it to their library, have it pull down pictures and details from Amazon, and generally manage their content with categories, ratings, reviews and more.
/2005/November/11 - Basic bookshelf and categories
/2005/November/18 - Integrate with Amazon Web Services
/2005/November/25 - Drag and drop, auto-complete and other AJAX goodness
/2005/December/2 - Multiple users and reviews
